VISTA, CALIF.—TetraVue is looking to bring 4D to consumers with the announcement that it will demonstrate its full-motion 4D video camera to CES 2018 attendees. The camera combines the multi-megapixel resolution and motion capture accuracy of digital video with LIDAR’s range of capability. TetraVue reports that the fourth dimension of depth to the camera allows for the capture of accurate depth information at pixel-level.

The camera is designed to illuminate a scene with a non-visible, eye safe flash at up to 30 fps to capture full motion. Distance to each pixel in an image is determined simultaneously with a patented optical encoder coupled with a multi-megapixel CMOS image sensor. The camera outputs a greyscale high resolution image with depth information registered to each pixel. TetraVue has plans to make the technology extensible for full color in the future.

TetraVue believes that this new technology can be used for Advanced Driver Assist Systems, as well as for creating virtual worlds.

The company will showcase the 4D camera technology at booth 9130 during CES 2018, which will take place in Las Vegas from Jan. 9-12.
